UNB, Thakurgaon :BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday said BNP took part in the recently-held upazila parishad polls as part of its movement strategy to unseat the government.The BNP leader said this while addressing an election rally at Gareya Bazar in sadar upazila of the district. Terming the Awami League government an alienated regime, the BNP leader said the ruling party is not allowing people to enjoy their freedom of expression.”They (govt) are sending people to jail in false cases for criticising the government. This is an ethically illegal government as it got elected with less than five percent votes,” he told the rally.He said a resistance has to be put up to get rid of the repressive acts unleashed by the government.”This government has destroyed the fair environment of holding elections. The government has failed to govern the state. They (ruling party men) have looted thousands of crores of taka from big institutions, including Hall-Mark and Destiny Group,” he added.Mentioning that alem-ulama and members of the Hindu community has been facing repression, the BNP spokesperson said no one is safe under the current regime.
