JOF leaders pay homage to Bhashani

Top leaders of the newly formed Jatiya Oikyafront yesterday went to Tangail to pay homage to Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani on his 42nd death anniversary.
The team led by Dr Kamal Hossain placed a wreath at his grave in Santosh of the Tangail district.
“I think Maulana Bhashani is still alive in us and will remain forever as source of inspiration,” Kamal Hossain said to the journalist after paying homage.
Dr Kamal said, Maulana Bhashani was with the people in all the movements, including the
movement for independence. He is our leader. Inspired by Bhashani’s ideal, we are united to restore democracy in our beloved Bangladesh.
Asked about the upcoming elections, Dr Kamal said, “The victory will be people’s.”
Among others, Krishak Sramik Janata League President Abdul Kader Siddique, Gono Forum General Secretary Mostofa Mohsin Montu and Jatiya Oikya Prokriya Leader Sultan Mohammad Mansur accompanied Dr Kamal to Tangail.
A group of BNP leaders led by Abdullah Al Noman offered Fateha by the grave of Maulana Bhashani. BNP Vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Major General (Rtd.) Mahmudul Hasan, district BNP President Shamsul Alam Tofa and General Secretary Advocate Farhad Iqbal were present.  
Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani dedicated his entire life for the oppressed people of the world including Bangladesh before and after independence. He never compromised his ideals, nor deviated from socialism. He was the leader of the Majlum Janata.
Born at Dhangara village in Sirajganj in 1880, Maulana Bhashani fought against imperialism during the British colonial rule.
He was one of the founders of Awami Muslim League, which later became Awami League. He later formed a progressive political organisation named National Awami Party.
Bhashani led different movements against the oppression of Pakistani rulers. He played a significant role in the 1969 mass upsurge and contributed to the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.
He led the historic Farakka Long March in 1976.
The great nationalist passed away on November 17, 1976.
