UNB, Dhaka :
Voicing disappointment over poor luggage handling at the country’s premier airport, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister AKM Shahjahan Kamal on Tuesday suggested cutting jobs of aged and incapable employees of the national flag career to gear up its services.
“There’re many aged employees (in Biman) who are not capable to deliver. You say bye to them with handsome compensation. You employ young and energetic manpower in their places,” he said drawing attention of General Manager at Biman Bangladesh Airlines Shakil Meraj. The minister came up with the suggestion at a pre-budget discussion at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) hosted by Aviation and Tourism Journalists Forum of Bangladesh (ATJFB). Minister Kamal said he is not even satisfied over the current performance of Biman in terms of handing luggage. “If other countries can deliver service quickly, why can’t we?” He said Biman, the national carrier, is a pride of Bangladesh and it represents Bangladesh at home and abroad and urged all to work for upholding the image of the national carrier.
