JnU teachers, students continue protest demos

JnU Correspondent :The teachers and the students of the Jagannath University (JnU) on Monday protested and condemned the police atrocities against them on Sunday while demonstrating for recovery of 10 residential halls, including Tibet Hall, from the land grabbers.They formed separate human chains in front of the university Shaheed Minar and the National Press Club, blocked the busy Gulistan-Sadarghat Street, wore black badges, boycotted classes and examinations and brought out silent procession. About 200 teachers and 5000 students took part in the programme.Blocking the traffic for three hours, the students burnt tyres and logs on the street.Addressing the human chain, the agitated students vowed to recover the halls. They said, “All the Vice-Chancellors who joined here had assured us of establishing varsity control on the grabbed halls, but to no purpose,”JnU Chhatra League President Shariful Islam and General Secretary Sirajul Islam said that they wanted nothing but a solution to the students’ sufferings, adding that the demonstration would continue until their demands were met. The students returned to the campus at about 2pm.
