The Jagannath University administration has temporarily suspended a teacher on charge of harassing a female student of the university. The decision was taken in a syndicate meeting held at the Vice-Chancellor’s conference room on Thursday night.
The action has been taken against Mir Mosharraf Hossain (Razib Mir), Associate Professor of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, on the basis of the report of the ‘Facts Finding Committee’.
The university administration has also asked him to explain his position.
Preiviously, the university authority relieved Mir Mosharraf Hossain and two other teachers named Bharnana Bhawmik and Priyanka Swarnaker from all departmental activities in this regard.
Rebuffing the allegation, the teachers called it a conspiracy engineered by the department chairperson. Mir Mosharraf Hossain said that it was nothing but a conspiracy of the department head. “As I wanted a statement on expenditures in arranging a freshers’ reception, I have been made target”, he said.
It was learnt that a female student lodged a written complaint to the VC against the three teachers that she was sexually harassed.
