JnU students to build’ Odhikar Adai Mancha

JnU Correspondent :The students of Jagannath University (JnU) have planned to build ‘Odhikar Adai Mancha’ on its premises to continue movement for recovery of their 10 residential halls from the land grabbers.S M Sirajul Islam, Spokesman of the ‘mancha’ told The New Nation that the mancha would be built in front of the university main gate to barricade Gulistan-Sadarghat Road and we would stay there until and unless our demands were met.The teachers, the students and the employees of JnU unanimously have been protesting since February 12 to retrieve their 10 residential dormitories from the land grabbers. ‘A procession will be brought out today (Sunday),’ said the spokesman.JnU Teachers Association, Employees Association, Awami League and BNP backed teachers associations, JnU unit BCL, JCD, Progressive Students Aliances as well as different social and cultural organizations have formed steel like unity to get their halls back. “We want nothing but to mitigate the students’ sufferings”, said a student leader.In the mean time, convener of the Hall Uddhar (Recovery) Committee of JnU, Shariful Islam, vowed to continue their protest programme through abstention of classes and examinations until the dormitories are recovered.He declared that they were going to impound the Abdur Rahman Hall and Azmal Hassain Hall at Armanitola in the old part of Dhaka on Sunday.Earlier, JnU Teachers Association declared that they would boycott all classes except examinations for indefinite period in protest against the cops’ atrocities on the teachers and the students on February 23 where seven teachers received bullet injuries and over 300 students were also injured.Moreover, five-member delegation team on behalf of the university, including Proctor Dr Ashoke Kumar Shaha, submitted a written statement to A K M Shahidul Haq, Additional IGP (admin), at 2.30pm to press home their demands.
