Jagannath University student and online activist Nazimuddin Samad, who was killed by some unidentified assailants in the capital on Wednesday night, was buried at his family graveyard at Tukabharaut village in the upazila on Friday morning.
The burial took place around 11am after a namaz-e-janaza at the village, said Sumon Ahmed, nephew of Nazim.
Earlier, the body was brought here from the capital around 6am.
Nazimuddin Samad, 26, an LLM student of Jagnnnath University, was also the information and research secretary of Sylhet unit of Bangabandhu Jatiya Jubo Parishad and an activist of Sylhet Ganajagaran Mancha.
A group of assailants swooped on Samad at Ikrampur of Sutrapur in the capital on Wednesday night, and hacked and shot him indiscriminately, leaving him dead on the spot.
