The 10th Founding Anniversary of Jagannath University (JnU) was celebrated on Tuesday in a befitting manner and festivity.
The daylong celebration was marked by a get-together of teachers, employees and thousands of former and present students of the university and many more events.
Colourful procession, as well cultural functions added to the swanky twirl of the event.
The entire ambience of JnU campus was festive look, with students engaged in merrymaking and socialising.
Wearing colourful dress and hats, splashing colours on one another, playing flute and cock fight and stick dance in conjunction with beating drums were the harmless fun JnU students went through the whole day.
By the time the clock struck 10:00am, the inauguration of the ceremony kicked off through releasing pigeons and colourful balloons.
As the chief guest Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, and as special guest UGC Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan and JnU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman inaugurated the programme on the university shaheed minar premises while Treasurer Prof Salim Bhuiyan, Registrar Eng Md Ohidujjman and Proctor Dr Noor Mohammad of the university were present, among others.
With the declaration of the inaugural by the Minister, the participants of the ceremony burst into a great bravo, followed by a vividly march that paraded through the roads in and around JnU.
Mostly noticeable were the separate programmes drawn up by 33rd departments of the university to mark the day.
From ‘dress as you like’ to ‘street drama’ and a colourful concert with Hridoy Khan, Power voice singer Rajib, Fakir Alamgir, Lalon Sangeet no good clean fun was left to have had by the students.
Towards the sunset, JnU wore a different look with lighting that seemed to have stolen the scene which dominated the whole day.
Education Minister, in his speech, however, said that graduation opens the door to many opportunities and challenges.
Graduates must embrace these challenges. Their willingness to struggle will lead to their successful careers.
UGC Chief Prof Mannan said that the university has recently emerged as a role model among the new universities in the country.
JnU VC Prof Dr Mizan said, “Jagannath University has hundred years of glorious history, but on October 2005, it embarked on a new journey after emerging as public university.
So, the tenth founding anniversary this year means a lot, he added.
However, Jagannath Roy Chowdhury in 1868 founded a school which was later upgraded to college in 1884 by his son Kishori Lal Roy Chowdhury.
The college was widely known as Jagannath College and was recognised as a public university on October 20, 2005.
