Hasan Mahmud :
The new committee of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Jagannath University unit, is likely to be formed soon, as the incumbent committee’s tenure ended on October 2013.
The aspirants are lobbying with the high-ups of the Awami League as well as the top BCL leaders for getting posts.
According to organisation sources, the committee of the unit was formed about three years ago on October 03, 2012 with FM Shariful Islam as the President and SM Sirajul Islam as the General Secretary. Both of them were the students of academic session 2004-05 at JnU. Though, article 11 of BCL says, “The tenure of the district executive committee is one year. New committee has to be formed by this time. Otherwise, the executive committee will stand dissolved.”
Some leaders expressed that the unit BCL is becoming organisationally weak because of the delay in forming the committee.
A leader on condition of anonymity said, “My desire to take organisational responsibility is getting frustrated by the delay.”
“Their studentship is nearing an end. Chhatra League will lose many experienced and able organisers if there is further delay in forming the new committees,” he said.
BCL General Secretary SM Jakir Hossain said, ‘We start the processing of splitting the committees which have already passed its legitimacy and try to form new teams to bring fresh blood and dynamic leadership so that it can work as a vanguard for the movement of Awami League.’
‘As the committee of JnU unit passed its time, a new juvenile committee will be formed immediately, he said.
But he did not specify the time when the council would be held.
However, the most top aspirants for the JnU unit BCL committee are Saidur Rahman Jewel (Organising Secretary of the unit), SM Sumon Ahmed (Social Welfare Secretary of the unit), Tarikul Islam (Joint-Secretary of the unit), Harunur Rashid, Kamrul Islam, and so on.
