JMB man confesses involvement with priest murder

Another arrested JMB cadre Ramjan Ali, 20, an alleged military wing member of the banned extremist outfit, yesterday gave confessional statement about his involvement with killing of Priest Principal Joggeswar Roy.
With this, three out of the seven arrested cadres of banned extremist outfit Jama’atul Mujahedeen Bangladesh (JMB) have given confessional statements before the learned Judge Marjia Khatun of Senior Judicial Magistrate Court-2 of Panchagarh.
Court Inspector Rabiul Islam Khan said the learned Judge ordered for sending Ramjan to the jail hajat after recording his confessional statements and he was sent to jail hajat
at around 6:30 pm yesterday. He was being interrogated under 18-day police remand since February 27 last in connection with the Priest murder case and another case under the Arms and Explosive Substances Acts were filed with Debiganj Thana.
With this, all seven arrested persons in connections with the two cases have been sent to Panchagarh jail hajat.
Investigation Officer (IO) Inspector Ayub Ali of Debiganj Thana produced Ramjan before the court at 1 pm yesterday for confessional statements in connections with the two cases.
The learned Judge first reminded Ramjan about the fact that his confessional statements might bring death sentence or life term rigorous imprisonment for him and gave him three hours time for thinking before giving confessional statements.
“After thinking for several hours, Ramjan agreed to give confessional statements when he was taken to the ‘khas kamra’ of the learned Judge at 4 pm and gave his statements for one and a half hour time,” the IO said.
Arrested three JMB cadres Alamgir Hossain, Harez Ali and Ramjan Ali have so far given confessional statements in connections with the two cases. Earlier, police arrested JMB cadres Alamgir Hossain, 30, Harez Ali, 34, and Ramjan Ali, 20, on February 25 last as per confessions of JMB operatives Khalilur Rahman, 55, Babul Hossain, 28, and Jahangir Alam, 32, who were previously arrested on last February 21
