JMB links in Gulshan, Sholakia attacks: IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque on Saturday said home-grown militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) was involved in both Gulshan and Sholakia attacks, report.
“The detainees in the Sholakia attack incident admitted that Gulshan attack was interlinked with the attack at Sholakia,” he told newsmen after visiting the crime scene near the Sholakai Eidgah.
The police chief also
visited the residence of Jharna Rani Bhowmik, who died when a bullet hit her through a window during the attack there. He also conveyed deep sympathy to her family members.
Hoque said, police arrested one injured attacker and detained several suspects who admitted during the integration that they were the members of JMB.
The police chief said the statements of detainees in the Sholakia attack incident confirmed that they have pseudonyms of five attackers in the Gulshan cafe siege.
“The attackers admitted that they tried to launch bomb attack on the Musullis at the Eid congregation. They unleashed sudden attack on police personnel as the cops were checking them,” he said.
The IGP said, they had no information about the attack but they had strengthened security measures at Sholakia Eidgah fearing that militants could attack any places in the country.
He said, process is underway to lodge a case today in the Sholakia attack incident.
About involvement of any international militant groups, the IGP said, “None is yet to claim responsibility of Sholakia attack.
High officials of police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) including Dhaka range Deputy Inspector General of Police Mahfuzul Haque Nuruzzaman were present during the visit.
