A JMB leader arrested in connection with the attempt on the life of church priest Luke Sarkar confessed to his crime before a local court on Tuesday.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Rezaul Karim recorded the statement of JMB regional commander Rakibul Islam alias Rakib alias Tauhid alias Rajon alias Rafique under section 164 in the afternoon after he was produced before the court on completion of his five-day remand.
In his confessional statement, Rakib told the court
that he was involved in attacking the priest, said officer-in-charge of Ishwardi Police Station Biman Kumar Das, also investigation officer of the case.
Police in a drive arrested Rakib, son of Dr Abdul alias Dr Manik hailing from Majidpur village in Sadar upazila, from Tabunia village in Sadar upazila on October 28.
On October 29, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Rezaul Karim placed Rakibul on a five-day remand in the case.
Luke Sarkar, 52, a pastor of Faith Bible Church, escaped a murder attempt with injures as some unidentified youths tried to silt his throat at his house at School Para in Ishwardi upazila on October 5.
The youths, however, fled the scene when Luke screamed for help.
