HSIA's customs men assaulted, goods looting: JL leaders among three held in city

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested three persons, including the chief accused, from the city’s Mirpur on Wednesday, on charge of looting goods and beating customs official at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).
The detained persons have been identified as chief accused and Jubo League (JL) leader Badrul Alam alias Shyamol, his two younger brothers Foysal Alam alias Prince and Papon, RAB official said.
RAB-1 Commander Lieutenant Colonel Tuhin Mohammad Masud said that a team of the elite force raided at a house at Mirpur and arrested.
“A gang of muggers snatched goods from the Dhaka Airport’s Cargo Complex Currier Unit beating Assistant Customs Commissioner and Revenue Officials on August 10. The gang looted 15 cartoons of goods. Video footage showed that Juba League leaders Shyamol and Prince led the gang. Later, in the afternoon, police recovered the looted goods from office of the SMI Currier Services. Shyamol is the owner of the currier services,” said the RAB official.
On 11 August, Assistant Revenue Officer, Shahjazan Ali filed a case against eight persons for snatching goods and threatening life, he said.
Investigation officer of the case and Airport Police Station’s Sub-Inspector, Nur Alam, said that police arrested six persons in connection with the incident earlier.
The arrested persons are Zahangir Alam, Shourav Hossain Khan, Kazi Anisur Rahman, Munna, Joardar Ali and Jasim, the police official said.
