A local Jubo League leader was shot dead and another person injured by miscreants at Durgapur village in Sadar upazila of the district early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Kabir Hossain, 28, ward unit general secretary of Degholi union of the ruling Awami League’s youth front and son of Sakhayet Ullah of Durgapur village, while the injured was Sharif, son of Abul Hossain of the same village.
Locals said, Kabir and Sharif came under an attack by a group of miscreants while they were returning home from a polling centre near the house of one
Kala Chowdhury at around 3:30am. The attackers opened fire targeting them from a secret place, leaving Kabir dead on the spot and Sharif injured.
Critically injured, Sharif was taken to a local hospital.
Contacted, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Iqbal Hossain confirmed the incident and said a police team was sent to the spot.
