Rampura tragedy: JL leader Monir on 5-day remand

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday (Tuesday) placed Moniruzzaman Chowdhury, owner of two-storied tin-shed house in the city’s Rampura Hajipara area that collapsed on April 15 leaving 12 people dead.
Magistrate Zakir Hossain Tipu of the CMM Court granted the remand after hearing. Earlier, Sub-Inspector Julhas Mia of Rampura Police Station sought ten-day remand to quiz the accused, who is also a Juba League Leader. The court put him on remand rejecting his bail petition.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion-3 (RAB-3) arrested Moniruzzaman, 38, conducting a drive in Nishchintapur Tiprabazar area in Sadar upazila of Comilla district.
The victims of the incident included two children. The two-storied tin-shed house was erected on a water body on bamboo pillars at Begerbari Jheelpar in Rampura that caved in around 4 pm on April 15.
