Detectives arrested a local Jubo League leader along with a revolver and six rounds of bullets from GK Ghat area in the district town on Wednesday night on charge of extortion.
The arrestee was identified as ZM Somrat, joint convener of city unit Jubo League and son of Shahanaz Sultana Bani, women councillor of the
municipality’s ward no. 1.
Sabbirul Islam, officer-in-charge of the Detective Branch (DB) of police, said tipped off, a team of the detectives conducted a drive in the area and arrested Samrat while his associates managed to flee the scene at night. The law enforcers also recovered a revolver and six rounds of bullets from his possession.
