Jhalakathi rape accused given bail as he marries victim in court

A judge in Jhalakathi district has granted bail to an abduction and rape case accused after he agreed to marry the rape victim.
Mohammad Shahidullah, District and Sessions Judge of Jhalakathi, granted permanent bail to the accused on Sunday in presence of both the plaintiff and accused in his court.
Earlier, at the request of the bridegroom’s family members, judge Mohammad Shahidullah proposed to grant permanent bail to the accused on condition that he would marry the victim.
As both sides agreed to the proposal, Quazi Maulana Syed Bashir conducted the marriage in presence of them on Sunday afternoon at the directive of the judge.
Public Prosecutor (PP) and lawyer of the plaintiff Advocate Abdul Mannan Rasul and the lawyer Advocate Nasir Uddin Kabir on behalf of the accused confirmed it.
The bridegroom of the wedding was Mohidul Islam of village Boidarapur under Jhalakathi Sadar upazila, while the bride was Ayesha Akter of village Char Bhatarakanda. Following the wedding, judge Mohammad Shahidullah granted bail to the accused bridegroom.
PP Abdul Mannan Rasul said the victim’s mother Lucky Begum filed a case on charge of abduction and rape of her daughter Ayesha Akter three years ago. Since then the accused had been absconding.
On Sunday, judge Mohammad Shahidullah issued directive asking the accused to marry the victim on Tk 5 lakh wedding bond inside the court after the accused had agreed to marry the victim.
The wedding was conducted in presence of the accused, victim, and relatives of both sides at the court premises. After submitting the necessary documents to the court, the judge granted bail to the accused.
