The Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has increased the price of jet fuel by Tk5 a litre for the month of March.
The corporation changed the price as per its policy to adjust the aviation fuel price every month in view of the energy price situation in the global market, said a source at the BPC.
Aviation industry insiders, however, say airplane passengers now will have to pay more money for travelling as fuel price always leaves an impact on ticket prices.
Nonetheless, the price of jet fuel for international flights is $0.10 less in Bangladesh compared to that in neighbouring Kolkata.
One litre of jet fuel for international flights costs $0.65 in Kolkata, which is $0.55 in Bangladesh. However, the price is Tk60 per litre for domestic flights.
Since December last year, the BPC has been adjusting the jet fuel price every month in accordance with the international fuel market.
In December, the price of per litre of jet fuel was fixed at Tk48, and in January and February, it was Tk53 and Tk55, respectively.
On Thursday, the prices of per barrel of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) and Brent crude oil were $65.16 and $68.68 in December last year.
