Jessore youth injured as `cop hits` him for ignoring signal

UNB, Jessore :A young man was injured as a policeman allegedly hit him in the head with his rifle butt for ignoring signal at a check-post in the district town on Sunday evening.The victim was identified as Abu Sayeed, 30, son of Lutfar Rahman Munshi of Raiganj Hanua in Manirampur upazila.Witnesses said a police team, comprising assistant sub-inspector Liton Sardar, two constables of Kotwali Police Station along with two Ansar members, was searching vehicles by setting up the check-post at Shakarpur in the town.The policemen signaled two young men to stop around 6pm while they were passing by the check-post riding a motorcycle. However, the duo tried to speed away ignoring the signal.Constable Rokan then hit pillion rider Sayeed in the head with his rifle butt, leaving him injured.Later, locals took Sayeed to a local hospital with his head bleeding.Agitated, they also encircled the policemen.On information, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station Sikdar Akkas Ali rushed in with additional force and rescued the police members from the confinement, and described the incident as an accident.
