One held, 2kgs gold seized
Border Guard Bangladesh men on Tuesday noon arrested a suspected gold smuggler raiding at Durgapur under Benapole port police station, said Lt Col Jahangir Hossain, commanding officer, 26 Border Guard Battalion. Talking to newsmen Lt Col Jahangir Hossain told that tipped off the BGB men seized a total of 12 gold bars weighing about 2 kilograms searching the body of Tabibar Rahman of Ghiba village under the port police station at around 12 noon. ‘He was arrested later’, the BGB official added.
The arrested was going to the frontier to be smuggled out the gold to India by a motorbike, the BGB CO said. The arrested was handed over to Benapole port police station after filing of a case.
AL leader arrested, arms seized
Detective Branch (DB) on Monday night arrested Abdul Wadud Sheikh, General Secretary, Nawapara Municipality Unit Awami League and seized two 9mm pistols, two magazines, five rounds of bullets and 6 crude bombs in a raid at Bhangagate under Nawapara industrial area, said M Tofael, sub inspector, DB. The DB official said the DB men made the arrest of the Awami League leader on secret information. ‘He was involved in arms trading and extortions,’ the DB SI said. Moniruzzaman, officer in-charge, DB told that the AL leader was picked up by the DB along with fire arms.
One held with 1kg heroin
Narcotics Control department men on Thursday arrested Sumon Shaik(27) a heroine smuggler raiding at Poncho nagar under Jhikorgasa Upazilain Jessore District.Aslam Hossain, Asst. Director of Madok Neyontron Adhidoptor, Jessore confirmed the information. Talking to newsmen Aslam Hossain, Asst. Director of Madok Neyontron Adhidoptor, Jessore, told that being informed secretly our men seized a total of ten poly bags heroin weighing about 1 kilogram from the residence of Sumon shaik of Pancho nagar village under Jhikorganca upazila at around 2 noon. ‘Sumon Shaik confessed that he smuggled heroine from india and stored for sending to Amanullah, a man of Narayan Gang , the official added. The arrested is The son of Wadud shaik, a well known smuggler of this locality, said general people.
Family left home fearing police tortures
Keshabpur police compelled the members of a family to live their residence at Chingra village under the upazila. Fearing tortures of the police the family members were living here and there, alleged Mofizul Islam, a trader and also resident of Chingra village.
In a press conference held at Jessore Press Club on Sunday noon, Mofizul Islam, son of Siddiqur Rahman alleged that he locked in a feud with another businessman Shahidul Islam of the area as Shahidul did not pay Tk 41,936 to Mofiz. Moreover, Shahidul lodged a complaint with Keshabpur police station on February 26, 2013. Sub inspector Krishba
beat him up at the local police camp after picking him up from his residence at around 12 midnight as he refused to give Tk 2 lakh 30 thousand. The police took him to Keshabpur police station the next day. The officer in-charge demanded the same amount of money in the police station. The police, however, freed him as a number of journalists went to the police station.’Two cases were filed with a Jessore court in connection with the police harassments,’ Mofiz added.
Youth found dead in Benapole motel
Police on Thursday night recovered the body of a youth from a motel at Benapole. The police also arrested a young lady in connection with the killing. The dead is identified as Sumon Ali, 35, a taxi driver and also a resident of Bhaberber under Benapole Port Police Station. The arrested is Sumi,20, daughter of Mofizur Rahman of Sitarampur village under Jhikargachha upazila. Apurba Hasan, officer in-charge, Benapole port police station told New Nation that police recovered the body from the drain behind the motel and arrested Sumi, a call girl. ‘ Sumi couil kill him over transaction of money.
