Omar Ali, 55, an activist of the ruling Awami League and a resident of Panchpota village under Jhikargachha upazila was beaten to death by a number of miscreants over internal feud at Kutir Bagan area under Jhikargachha police station on Sunday night.
The officer in-charge of Jhikargachha police station Masud Karim confirming the information told that the incident took place at Kutir Bagan area over establishing supremacy between two groups of the Awami League.
A person was rounded up for quizzing although no case was lodged in this connection, the OC added.
Mintu Morol, son of the dead told that assailants led by Tariqul Islam Liton member of ward number 8 of Hazirbahg union council killed his father at Kutir Bagan area after abducting him from Harikhali Bazar at around 8:15pm on Sunday.
Rafiq Mollah, vice-president, Hazirbahg union unit Awami League told that the Awami League activist was killed by UP member Liton and his men as Omar’s brother Mahar Ali contested for the post of the union unit Awami League very recently. ‘Liton is a son of Abdul Wahab, president, Hazirbahg union unit Awami League,’ he added.
Dr Kallol Kumar Saha, medical officer, Jessore General Hospital told that the patient died before he was rushed to the hospital at 11:40pm on Sunday.
