Several hundred leaders and activists of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on Saturday brought out a procession in the city’s Paltan area to protest against the postponing of the pre-scheduled sixth council of the JCD on September 14 following a court order.
The Chhatra Dal leaders pointed out their figures to the ruling party men to misuse the court to adjourn the council.
They also vowed to hold their council after getting court verdict in favour of their arrangement. After the procession, they arranged a rally in front of the BNP Central Office by blocking the road in the city’s Nayapalton area where the some senior leaders of the party addressed it blaming the government for adjourning the council.
Asked about the update of the council arrangement, Appeal Committee Chief and BNP Vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu said, “We will go to court. If there is a decision about suspension then we will decide about the council.”
Meanwhile, some dozen of candidates of the JCD and their supporters have come to Nayapaltan office and expressed their resentment over the suspension of the Chhatra Dal Council and the angry activists shouted various slogans.
JCD presidential candidate Kazi Rowankul Islam Srabon told The New Nation on Saturday, “The government thought that the morale of the Chhatra Dal activists will be broken if the student council is disrupted. But it did not break the morale of the leaders, rather the JCD activists are more united.”
Another presidential candidate Hafizur Rahman said, “The suspension of the council is a conspiracy of the government. This did not hurt our students. Rather, our unity has been strengthened.”
