A local Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activist was chopped to death by miscreants near Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital (SOMCH) in the city on Friday.
Officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station Sohel Ahmed said a group of miscreants hacked Don Hasan, 27, of Kajalshah area of the city, with sharp weapons indiscriminately in front of the SOMCH around 8:30pm, leaving him dead on the spot.
Soon after the incident, police recovered a sharp weapon and a one-shooter gun from the spot, said police.
Additional deputy commissioner (media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Jedan Al Musa said they collected a video footage of the incident. “Hasan might have been killed by his rivals over previous enmity.”
Meanwhile, police detained three people, including a youth named Rabbi, from the hospital area for interrogation, he said. Hasan, who was a charge-sheeted accused in a case filed over a murder that took place in front of Abu Sina Hostel of the SOMCH several months back, was freed from jail on bail several days back, added the OC.
