Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal early Sunday locked up different academic buildings of Dhaka University (DU) in protest of the High Court (HC) verdict that sentenced BNP senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman seven years imprisonment and fined Tk 20 crore in a money laundering case.
University authority, however, broke the all locks with hammers around 7:00am.
Sources said leaders and activists of JCD-DU unit locked up Curzon Hall, Annex Building, Mokarram Building, Proctor office and Dean Offices of different departments of the university. JCD activists used ‘super glue’ on locks of Arts Building and Social Science Building.
Confirming the news, Akter Hossain, Publicity Secretary of JCD-DU unit, said we took positions in front of different buildings of DU in support of strike. We locked up different academic buildings along with proctor and dean offices. DU Proctor Professor Dr. A M Amzad said university authority broke all the locks as JCD leaders and activists locked up several academic buildings.
University sources all exams and classes will be held as usual despite nationwide strike called by JCD.
Meanwhile leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) handed over a JCD leader to police who was caught while fitting posters at Curzon Hall on Saturday night.
