Police torture alleged: JCD leader dies in Jessore jail

Samiuzzaman Uzzal, 32, former joint secretary, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Jessore district unit and presently activist of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal and son of Moniruzzaman of Ghope in Jessore town died in Jessore Central Jail on Friday.
BNP and family sources said Uzzal died after being tortured by the police and negligence of jail authority although the police and the jail authority claimed that he was sent to the jail as a safe custodian for drug addiction.
Moniruzzaman, father of the victim told that Kotwali police arrested Uzzal from their residence on June 20 without any allegation. He was tortured by the police as the police were not given demanded money. He was not given proper treatment, too.
Syed Saberul Haque Sabu, general secretary, Jessore district unit, BNP told newsmen that the victim was not given proper treatment by the jail authority. ‘We should inform journalists detailed at a press conference tomorrow (Saturday)’, he added.
Shahjahan Mia, superintendent, Jessore Central Jail told journalists that Uzzal was taken to Jessore Medical College Hospital after he felt sick in jail at around 10am.
