World Health Day celebrated on Monday to mark the anniversary of the founding of WHO in 1948. Each year a theme is selected that highlights a priority area of public health. The Day provides an opportunity for individuals in every community to get involved in activities that can lead to better health. The topic for 2014 is vector-borne diseases.
More than half of the world’s population is at risk from vector-borne diseases such as malaria and dengue. Yet, we can protect ourselves and our families by taking simple preventive measures, including vaccination.
Mosquitoes, flies, ticks and bugs may be a threat to our health – and that of our family – at home and when travelling. This is the message of this year’s World Health Day, 7 April, which highlights actions we can all take to protect ourselves from the serious diseases that these “vectors” can cause. In line with WHO theme Japan-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital use the posters to prepare for World Health Day activities. This year the slogan for World Health Day is ‘Small Bite, Big Threat’
