Jatka Conservation Week to begin from March 16

The Jatka Conservation Week-2019 will be observed from 16 to 22 March instead of March 10-16 aiming to encourage stopping of catching, trading and marketing of Jatka (immature Hilsa fish).
The date of the weeklong programme has been deferred due to unavoidable circumstances, said a press release here.
On the opening day of the week a boat procession will be arranged at Charfassion in Bhola to add extra encouragement to the anti-Jatka catching campaign. State Minister of Fisheries and Livestock Ashraf Ali will lead the procession.
The 36 Jatka-enriched districts will get the main focus of the week. The districts are Dhaka, Manikganj, Kishoreganj, Rajbari, Shariyatpur, Madaripur, Faridpur, Munshiganj, Naraynganj, Narshingdi, Tangail, Goplaganj, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barishal, Pirojpur, Barguna, Jhalokathi, Chandpur , Laksmipur, Feni, Noakhali, Chattogram, Cox’sbazar, Khulna, Kushtia, Bagerhat, Satkhira, Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Sirajganj, Natore, Jamalpur, Pabna, Kurigram and Gaibandha.
The weeklong programme will include video shows and broadcast on television and radio to build awareness. The law enforcement authorities will conduct drives at fish markets to stop catching, trading and marketing of Jatka.
