UNB, Dhaka :
The Jatka Conservation Week-2015 begins on Wednesday aiming to create mass awareness about the conservation of jatka (hilsa fry) to boost hilsa output in the country.
The slogan of the week this year is ‘Protect Jatka, increase hilsa production’.
On Tuesday, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the occasion of the week.
President Abdul Hamid in his message said hilsa has a historical relation to food habit and culture of Banglalees and national fish hilsa has been playing an important role in employment of a large number of people, supplying safe protein and the country’s economic development.
He stressed implementing sustainable conservation and management strategy to increase hilsa production.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the increase in hilsa output depends on conservation of jatka and its management, and the government is committed to implementing the integrated measures it has taken to conserve jakta. She urged all to come forward to help the government in conserving hilsa in the country.
The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has taken various programmes marking the Jatka Conservation Week 2015.
