With the slogan titled Jago Sombhabonai Jago Kobitai the 29th ‘National Poetry Festival’ (Jatiyo Kobita Utsab), organised by Jatiyo Kobita Parishad, began on the Central Public Library premises in the city’s Shahbagh area yesterday.
Eminent litterateur and poet Syed Shamsul Huq inaugurated the two-day long festival yesterday morning while President of Jatiyo Kobita Parishad poet Habibullah Siraji chaired the opening session.
Convenor of Jatiyo Kobita Parishad poet Dr Muhammad Samad, among other leading poets were also present at the inauguration.
The festival is featuring elaborate programmes, including recitation of poems, songs on Ekushey, seminar, discussion and exhibition on poets and poetry.
Poets and litterateurs from home and abroad are participating in the festival. So far poets from different countries including India, China, Malaysia, Sweden, Denmark, Ecuador, Switzerland and Belgium are also attending the festival.
Poet Mohammad Rafiq, the founding general secretary of Jatiyo Kobita Parishad, has been selected for this year’s Jatiyo Kobita Utsab Padak (National Poetry Festival Award), said the organisers.
