Several leaders and workers of HM Ershad-led Jatiya Party (JP) by the party central leader and president of Banaripara (Barisal) upazila unit Babul Sarder Chakhari, joined the National Peoples’ Party (NPP), a partner of the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
They joined the party by presenting bouquet to the NPP chairman Sheikh Shawkat Hossain Nilu in the party’s central office in the city on Thursday.
Among the leaders, who joined the party, are Ohidur Rahman, Sheikh Raju Ahmed, Alauddin Rahman, Md Jasim Sarder, Ilias Sarder, Hasan Rahman, Moniruzzamn Kochi and Parvez Rahman.
NPP presidium member Salma Rahman, the party leaders Baharul Islam Bahar, Mamunur Rashid Mamun, Mostafa Kamal Badal, Dr Altaf Hossain, Ziaul Islam Heera, Firoz Mohammad Liton and Anisur Rahman Sumon were also present at the time, among others.
Sheikh Shawkat Hossain Nilu welcomed the JP leaders to his party and said that their joining will strengthen his party. He also urged the party leaders to work together for taking part in the next general election.
