The Jatiya Oikyafront, a newly formed political alliance, is going to organise its second rally in Chattogram today.
Chattogram Police has given permission to the alliance to hold the rally near the Kazir Dewri, and not at Laldighi Maidan of the port city, Shahdat Hossain,
President of BNP Chattogram city unit, told The New Nation.
The Oikya Front has been accorded permission on several conditions. These include holding of the rally in front of Chattogram city unit BNP office, Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman told The New Nation.
As per conditions, he said, the rally must be dispersed by 5pm.
The CMP official said they did not allow the Oikyafront to hold the rally at Laldighi Maidan on security ground.
Dr Shahadat Hossain said they sought permission to hold the programme at Laldighi Maidan, but the CMP authorities asked them to do it in front of city BNP office.
He said, Dr Kamal Hossain will address the rally as the chief guest, while BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as the main speaker.
Besides, Shahdat said, top leaders of the Oikyafront and BNP will join the meeting.
It is second rally of the newly formed alliance as it held its maiden rally in Sylhet on October 24.
On October 13, BNP together with Dr Kamal Hossain-led Jatiya Oikya Prokriya, ASM Abdur Rab’s Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, and Mahmudur Rahman Manna’s Nagorik Oikya launched the Jatiya Oikyafront to realise their seven-point demand, including holding the next election under a non-party administration.
