Staff Reporter :
General Secretary of Awami League Obaidul Quader on Thursday blamed the Jatiya Oikyafront as the “rehabilitation center.”
“Under the leadership of Dr Kamal Hossain, the rehabilitation centre involving several parties is not actually Oikyafront. It is rather, a rehabilitation centre for the killers and the terrorists of BNP and its allies. It has been opened to ‘ruin’ Bangladesh,” he said.
Obaidul Quader said this while speaking at a election rally near to Savar Bus Stand, on the outskirts of the capital.
“There is neither president nor convener nor any leader. Yet its name is Oikyafront. Kamal Hossain will not hold any post. Then what will be the fate of Oikyafront in the absence of Khaleda Zia and his son?” he said.
The BNP has formed Oikyafront together with ‘sick persons’ to plant ‘unhealthy’ politics in the country, he said.
The BNP has sown the alliance with Kamal to ‘subtract’ Khaleda from the party.
Describing BNP as the mastermind of August 21 grenade attack, the ruling party leader said, ‘the party is now a dead river.’ ‘It announced on many occasions to wage a movement after Eid. At least 20 Eids have gone by this time, but there was no movement.’
He said there is no foundation of BNP-led Oikyafront. ‘People will elect Awami Leage again in the next election.’
If BNP tries to launch any ‘illegal’ movement centering the election, warns Quader, it will be thwarted with an iron hand.
Expressing his annoyance at the party leaders’ campaign to get candidacy waving banners, festoons and big billboards ahead of election, he said nomination will depend on competency.
AL Savar Pourasava unit President Haji Abdul Gani presided over the programme while AL Joint General Secretary Dr Dipu Moni, Organizing Secretaries Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Noufel and AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, local MP Dr Enamur Rahman, MA Malek, MP, Dhaka district AL President Benzir Ahmed and General Secretary Mahbubur Rahman were present on the occasion, among others.
He said, the government is distributing free textbooks among students across the country on the very first day of New Year while allowances among elderly people, freedom fighters and the disabled.
He said, there is no second option than electing Awami League in the next general election to continue the current trend of development.
The AL General Secretary said the Awami League leaders and workers who enjoy the majority people’s support and acceptance would get the party tickets to vie in the general election.
Party leaders and workers will have to work with unity for those who will get the AL tickets for contesting in the election, he added.
