Dr Mohit Ul Alam, a role model for development :
Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) was established in 2006 in Trishal, a historical place bearing the memories of our national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. Trishal has been known as an ideological station nurturing the ideals and spirits of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. In the next few years after its inception in 2006, no noticeable development project was seen in the university. When Awami League formed the government in 2009, a few development projects started but there was no visible speed in them. In 2013, after Prof Dr Mohit Ul Alam, a devoted follower of Kabi Nazrul, a descendent of Alam family of Fatehbad, Chittagong, and a poet-litterateur and columnist, was appointed as Vice Chancellor, there occurred a radical change in the administrative and academic progress and other development projects of the university. The local people of Trishal believe that the development materialised by the present Vice Chancellor in the last five years can be an exemplary model for any university of Bangladesh. We think that the nation-building project of Sonar Bangla (Golden Bengal), which our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is carrying on taking the risk of her life, has been well maintained by her loyal follower Prof Dr Mohit Ul Alam.
With regard to the development of the university, Prof Mohit is following the footprint of the Prime Minister in the way she is developing Bangladesh. After joining of Dr Mohit as JKKNIU Vice Chancellor, a touch of development has been found everywhere as in infrastructures and other sectors of the university. Among developments the most significant in progress include two 10 storied academic buildings with two wings, and a 10 storied Boys’ Hostel named Jatir Pita Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall and a 10 storied Girls’ Hostel named Banga Mata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Hall for accommodating the resident students. A dormitory equipped with 54 modern studio flats was already built for the accommodation of teachers and officers. A state-of-the art central library was built and the setting-up of E-library is under process. An eye-catching, beautiful Bungalow named Dukhu Mian was built as the residence of the Vice Chancellor. For providing smooth transport facilities for the students, the number of vehicles was doubled. Three spacious flats were bought in Shymoli, Dhaka for setting up a liaison office of the university. Institute of Nazrul Studies, a research institute focusing on Nazrul research was set up. Under the direct guidance of Prof Alam, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed with Kazi Nazrul University, Asansol, West Bengal, India for conducting research on Nazrul’s life and works. An outdoor named Charu-Deep (an island for fine arts) was being developed for Department of Fine Arts. An enormous playground named Sheikh Rasel was being prepared in a five acre of land for facilitating sports and games. Murals of Bangabandhu and the national poet were already set up and the construction of their sculptures is going on.
With his initiatives the total number of departments was raised from 12 to 19. For ensuring modern treatment facilities for the students a medical centre named Byathar Dan was founded. A well-equipped modern ambulance service was also added. A memorial Chiro Unnot Momo Shir (ever high is my head) was built to pay homage to the martyred freedom fighters. The construction of the sub-station for ensuring continuous electricity supply is about to be complete. Due to Professor Alam’s initiatives, PDB already installed an Express Feeder Line in the campus for better electricity supply.
He launched a school (Kabi Nazrul University School) at the University in order to ensure education facilities for the children of teachers, officers and staff members. A project of Tk. 480 crore is in the process of being approved by the Planning Commission. Under the project, the development and construction work to be carried out is as follows- an auditorium, a gymnasium, academic buildings, institute buildings, an IT building, a mosque, and residential buildings for teachers, officers and staff members. Prof Dr Mohit Ul Alam himself is supervising all these projects and activities. To gear up the academic activities, he teaches a course in department of English Language and Literature in every semester. He successfully organised the first convocation of the university, which was chaired by the honourable President of the country as Chancellor of the university.
Prof Mohit Ul Alam in his personal and professional life is very honest, modest, humble, gentle, and benevolent. At his present workplace (JKKNIU) he treats all teachers, officers and staff members cordially and equally.
He keeps on conducting the administrative and academic activities with utmost care and competence. He leads a simple life and moves around the countryside of Trishal as a common fellow. The Trishal people would like to draw the attention of the Prime Minister to appoint Prof Dr Mohit Ul Alam, a devoted follower of Bangabandhu in the second term as Vice chancellor of the university in order to carry on the development scheme of the government across the country..
