Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), a Japan based financial institution, has shown keen interest to invest in the country’s mega projects, said Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Thursday.
“There is no problem to finance in the Padma Bridge project. We have more mega projects. We have discussed on rail and Payra Port,” he told journalists after a meeting with a four-members delegation led by head of the investment banking department (Asia) of SMBC Singapore branch Rajeev Kannan at the Finance Ministry in the city.
The other members were head of project and export finance (Asia) Luca Tonello, head of export and agency finance (Asia) Jeanne Soh and vice president of export and agency finance (Asia) Prem Raj Suman.
Responding to a question, Muhith said, they are interested not only for a specific project, because they have ideas about all projects in Bangladesh. “We do not seek specific amount from the banking corporation. rather we have given them a good concept about our projects,” he added.
Replying to a question on interest rate of the investment, Muhith said, the interest rate will be good as the Korean interest rate is the best and Japan is in the second position.
