Japan on Sunday expressed keen interest to set up a specialized hospital for women and children in the capital.
A delegation of Japan’s Link Staff Company Limited called on Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim at his secretariat office and expressed the keenness, said an official release.
The Japanese government and a company will set up the hospital, the delegation told the minister.
Link Staff President Yasuaki Sugita led the four-member delegation.
The minister said progress in health sector in Bangladesh earned appreciations across the world.
Besides the local entrepreneurs, foreign investors are also showing interest in building health infrastructures here, he said, adding that the government always welcomes private initiatives in health sector.
Later, the health minister presided over a meeting at the ministry’s meeting room on cleanliness activities in hospitals, waste management and maintenance of equipments.
A Malaysian company made a power-point presentation on its proposal regarding these activities.
The meeting decided that a decision will be taken after examining the proposal.
The health minister also attended the orientation function of 74th batch (2016-17) students of Dhaka Medical College (DMC) with college Principal Prof. Ismail Khan in the chair.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohammad Nasim said the government will not make any compromise over the standard of medical education.
He urged the private medical colleges to fulfill the conditions of government policies soon.
The government suspended admission activities in four medical colleges this year, he said, adding that admission activities will be stopped in the next academic year in the colleges which will fail to meet the conditions.
The minister advised the new medical students to give highest priority to studies and requested the interne doctors not go on strike, leaving their patients, over any issue of misunderstanding.
Directorate of Health Director General Prof. Dr. Abul Kalam Azad, BMDC President Prof. Shahidullah, Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) President Dr. Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad President Prof Iqbal Arsalan and BMA Secretary General Prof Ehteshamul Huq also spoke on the occasion, among others.
