The Japanese government expressed its interest to provide technical assistance for developing a comprehensive land management system in Bangladesh.
Parliamentary Vice-Minister, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure & Tourism (MLIT) of Japan Yasutada Ohno expressed the keenness when Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif called on him during his 11-day official visit to Tokyo starting from August 25, according to a PID handout on Monday.
During the meeting with Yasutada Ohno, the Minister discussed how Japan can assist Bangladesh in land reform including review of relevant laws, development and digitization of land records and registration.
In his meeting with JICA Vice President Hidetoshi Irigaki, Sherif requested JICA to support the next phase of the Gucchagram Project (cluster villages) to provide shelter to the homeless population in Bangladesh.
He also requested the JICA official to send expert to his Ministry to assist in a needs assessment of the land sector and assist in developing a comprehensive strategy on land planning, management and development.
The JICA Vice President said and they would carefully examine those proposals.
