UNB, Dhaka :
The High Court on Thursday summoned the DG of Directorate General of Drug Administration and the MD of Japan-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital to appear before it on February 22 to explain the ‘treatment’ of a dead child in the hospital.
A two-member HC bench comprising Justice M Moazzam Hussain and Justice Md. Badruzzaman issued the suo motto (on its own motion) order following a media report that the hospital authorities kept a child at the ICU showing him alive, although he was
dead and were charging his family in the name of treatment.
The court also issued two rules asking the DG of the Directorate General of Drug Administration and the Managing Director of Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital to explain why they will not be directed to pay compensation to the victim’s family.
In another rule, the HC asked the duo to explain why the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) charges will not be brought against them. A Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) mobile court in a drive on Wednesday fined the hospital Tk 11.50 lakh for various irregularities.
