Japan appreciates achievements in women empowerment, gender equity

Japanese Ambassador Masato Watanabe Wednesday expressed satisfaction over Bangladesh’s achievements in women empowerment, gender equity and other areas.
The envoy expressed his satisfaction when he called on Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Choudhury at her parliament office in the city, said an official release.
The Japanese ambassador hoped that bilateral trade and relations of cooperation and friendship between the two countries would enhance further in future.
He assured continued cooperation of Japan in socio-economic development of Bangladesh.
The speaker and Japanese envoy discussed issues of bilateral interest and stressed further strengthening of relations between the two countries.
The speaker said Japan is a long-time friend of Bangladesh. Relations between the two countries would further consolidate in future, she hoped.
Japan can play a significant role in industrialization in Bangladesh, she suggested.
Dr. Shirin Sharmin said the present government is working for the country’s overall development by bringing women in the mainstream of development.
Bangladesh has attained successes in preservation of reproductive health, reduction of maternal and child mortality rates and prevention of early marriage, she said.
