Janmastami celebrated with festive mood

Members of the Hindu community celebrated ‘Janmastami’, one of their major religious festivals marking the birth anniversary of Lord Sri Krishna, in Barisal city yesterday with due religious devour and enthusiasm.
The day’s programmes began with bringing out a colorful traditional Janmastami rally from Dharmarakkhini Sava at Kalibari Road area of the city at 10 AM with musical instruments, placards, banners, festoons, traditional motifs, displays and drama scenes on life and works of the lord Krishna.
Adv Talukdar Md. Yunus, AL lawmaker, inaugurated the procession as the chief guest while Rakhal Chandra Dey, President Dharma Rakkhini Sava, presided over the inaugural function at Line road crossing of the city.
Among others, Shoibal Kanti Chowdhury, outgoing commissioner of Barisal Metropolitan Police, Dr. Bhaskar Saha, principal Sher- e- Bangla Medical College Hospital, Durlov Provu, of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), Bijitananda Moharaj, of Ramakrishna Mission, Narayan Chandra, Mrinal Kanti Das, Manik Mukharjee, community leaders, addressed the rally.
After the inauguration, a colourful procession marching on main roads of the city ended at Ramakrishna Mission. Prizes for the best colorful displays of the rally were distributed by Narayan Chandra Dey Naru, secretary of Barisal district Puja Udjapon Parishad at the end of the rally.
A 30-day program with Kirtan, recitation from holy books and discussion meetings also started at Dharma Rakkhini Sava and Ramakrishna Mission with worship (puja) of Sree Krishna, Pala Kirtan, Harinam Sangkirton, Ramayan Gaan, recitations from Sreemat Bhagobat Geeta and Puran, cultural function, distribution of ‘prasad’ and feeding to the poor also started on this occasion for seeking divine blessings for peace and prosperity of the community, nation and country.
BSS from Gaibandha adds: Janmastami, the birthday of Lord Krishna, was celebrated in seven upazilas of the district with religious fervor and enthusiasm yesterday.
According to Hindu believers, Lord Krishna came on the earth to destroy evil design and to establish triumph of good.
His preaching in Bhagvad Geeta is still guiding light for the followers of the Hindu religion.
In the celebration of the day, different Hindu religious organizations chalked out elaborate programmes in the district.
The programmes included prayers of Lord Krishna, Puja gathering, Kirtan, Ramayan songs and recitation from the holy Geeta and the Jagya.
Distribution of Prasad and feeding to the poor seeking divine blessing for the peace and progress of the country were also held on the occasion.
A discussion, organized by Bangladesh Puja Utjapon Parishad (BPUP), district unit, was also held on the premises of the V-AID Road Kalibari Temple of the town at noon.
BSS from Noakhali: The Janmashtami, birth day of Sree Krishna (Lord) was celebrated with due religious fervor and enthusiasm here yesterday.
The day’s programme started with a rally at 10am from the ISCKON Temple at Datterhat of Sadar upazila.
Anupam Barua, Additional Deputy Magistrate of Noakhali and Md. Elias Sharif, Superintendent of police in Noakhali led the rally that ended at Ram Thakur Ashram at Maijdee Bazaar of the district. Different socio-cultural and religious organizations joined the rally in observance of holy Janmashtami.
