Under the auspices of Bagerhat district branch of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Committee ‘Janmastami’, one of the major religious ceremonies of the Hindu community, marking the holy birth anniversary of the Lord Sri Krisna was celebrated in Bagerhat district town on Sunday with due festivity and religious fervour.
The day’s programme was ceremonially inaugurated by Srimat Akhilesananda, Chief Executive of Sri Sri Ramkrisna Asram, Bagerhat in the local Harisava Mandir in the morning at am.. It was followed by a lively discussion meeting held in front of Harisava Mandir on the life of God Sri Krishana and his works with Amit Roy, President of District Janmastami Udjapan Committee, Bagerhat in the chair. Al-haj Dr. Mozammel Hossain, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-4 and President of Bagerhat district unit of Bangladesh Awami League addressed the meeting as the chief guest while Al-haj Adv. Mir Shawkat Ali Badsha, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-2 addressed the meeting as the special guest. It was also addressed among others by Mrs. Happy Baral, MP (of Woman Reserved Constituency), Shaikh Kamruzzaman Tuku, Administrator of Bagerhat Zila Parishad and General Secretary, Bagerhat district Awami League, Tapan Kumar Biswas, DC, Bagerhat and Pankaj Chandra Roy, Police Super of Bagerhat.
After the meeting a grand religious rally was brought out from the venue and it paraded the main roads of the district town. It was participated by thousand of Hindu devotees irrespective of sexes and ages. A good number of people of Muslim community also took part in the rally. The total Programme was conducted by Abonish Chakrabarty alias Sona, General Secretary of Zila Janmstami Udjapon Committee, Bagerhat.
Barishal Correspondent reports: Members of the Hindu community celebrated ‘Shuva Janmashtami’, one of their major religious festivals marking the birth anniversary of Lord Sri Krishna in the Barisal city on Sunday with due religious devour and enthusiasm.
Thousands of people from Hindu community participated in these programs with hope that ‘the bonds of communal harmony and fraternity have been prevailing among the people of Bangladesh for thousands of years, will strengthen more, organisers of the programmes told.
The day’s programmes in Barishal city began with discussion at 11:00 am, bringing out a colorful traditional Janmashtami procession at 11:45 am with musical instruments, placards, banners, festoons, traditional motifs, displays and drama scenes on events of life and works of the Lord Krishna.
Advocate Talukdar Md. Yunus, lawmaker and district Awami League secretary was chief guest of the inaugural session of the programmes.
Rakhal Chandra Dey , president Dharma Rakkhini Sava, presided over the inaugural session of the festival held at Line Road-Sadar Road crossing of the city.
Among others Dilip Kumar Ghosh, Swapan Kumar Datta, Mrinal Saha, Suranjit Datta Litu, community leaders, Swami Bijit Atmananda Maharaj, head of Ramakrishna Mission Barishal Branch, Durlov Prem Das, president Barishal branch of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), attended the programmes.
Prizes for the best colorful displays of the rally were distributed at the end of the rally at Barisal Ramakrishna Mission.
A 30 days long program of Krishna Kirtan, Pala Kirtan, Harinam Sangkirton, Ramayan Gaan, recitations from Sreemat Bhagobat Geeta and Puran, cultural function, distribution of ‘prasad’ and feeding to the poor for seeking divine blessings and discussion meetings also started on this occasion at Dharma Rakkhini Sava and Ramakrishna Mission.
BSS from Rangpur adds: The Sanaton community here today celebrated the “Janmashtami”, birthday of Lord Sri Krishna, with huge enthusiasm amid due religious fervour, solemnity and festivity.
The district and city units of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad (BPUP) with assistance of district administration and Ministry of Culture and Religious Affairs chalked out programmes to celebrate the auspicious occasion.
The programmes included bringing out of a huge ‘Mangal Shobhayatra’ on the city streets followed by a discussion held on the ‘Sahittya Mancha’ at the Public Library ground in the city.
Besides, Puja, fasting and recitation from the holy `Sreematbhagabat Geeta’, ‘Krishna Bandana’, ‘Archona’ and prayers were offered at temples and houses seeking divine blessings for continuous peace, welfare and prosperity of the nation and the humankind.
