Janmashtami, the birth anniversary of Lord Sri Krishna, was celebrated here yesterday amid festivity and religious fervor.
The day’s programmes include worship of Lord Krishna, Geeta Jagna, Kirtan, discussions and peace processions.
As part of the celebration, members of the Hindu Community led by Janmashtami Celebration Parishad brought out a jubilant procession from Hanumanjir Akhra Mondir in the city.
The procession paraded different streets in the city including Alupatti, Kumarpara, Shaheb Bazar, Hossainganj and Hatemkhan road and ended at the same venue this noon.
City unit general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Dablu Sarker, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Tanveer Haider Chowdhury, President of Janmashtami Celebration Parishad Alok Kumar Das and General Secretary Tapan Kumar Sen attended the rally, among others.
The speakers said Bangladesh is an instance of communal harmony where people of all the religions have been observing their respective religious festivals freely for long.
Meanwhile, Rajshahi University authority celebrated the Janmashtami in its campus in a befitting manner.
Highlighting the significance of Janmashtami, the authority organized a discussion meeting with Prof Bishwanath Shikder, President of Central Puja Udjapan Parishad, in the chair.
VC Prof Abdus Sobhan, Pro-VC Prof Ananda Kumar Shaha, Assistant Indian High Commissioner Abhijit Chottopadhaya and his wife Patralika Chattapaddhaya spoke on the occasion.
