Janmashtami, one of the religious festivals of the Hindu community marking the birth anniversary of Lord Sri Krishna, was celebrated here yesterday with due pomp and grandeur.
Chittagong district unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad and district unit of Jago Hindu Parishad jointly organised a colorful procession was brought from GM Sen Hall premises in the morning. President of the North District Awami League Unit Nurul Alam was present in the rally as Chief Guest.
 Colourful processions from city areas and upazilas with musical band joined the main procession at GM Sen Hall . President of South District AL Moslemuddin Ahmed and General Secretary Mofizur Rahman, Panel Mayor Hasan Mahmud Hasni were present among others.
 The religious colour rally paraded the Anderkilla, Laldighi, Kotwali, New Market and returned again at GM sen hall.
Hundreds of Hindu devotees wearing white T-shirts inscribed with the word “Shree Krishna” representing from different temples participated in the procession. They carried portraits of Lord Krishna, Radha, mother Josoda, father Basu Dev and tyrant king Kangsha.A convoy of 20 trucks , tomtams and push cart with devotees shouting the slogan “Hare Krishna, Hare Ram, Hare, Hare” joined the procession.
Tight security measures deployed in association with RAB, police in the areas to avoid any unwanted incidents.
