Janmashtami, one of the religious festivals of the Hindu community marking the birth anniversary of Lord Sri Krishna, was celebrated here yesterday with due pomp and grandeur.
Narayanganj district unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad and Narayanganj district unit of Jago Hindu Parishad jointly organized a colorful procession at Lakhi Narayan Akhra in celebration of the day at 10am.
Lawmaker of Narayanganj-5 AKM Salim Osman inaugurated the procession as the chief guest.
Deputy Commissioner Anisur Rahman Mia, Police Super Moinul Hoq, Civil Surgeon Dr Ashutosh Das, ADC (general) Gausul Azam, Swami Ekonatha Nandaji Maharaj of Chashara Ram Krishna Mission, FBCCI Director Probir Kumar Saha, president of Narayanganj city Awami League Anwar Hossain, general secretary of Narayanganj city Awami League Advocate Khokan Shaha, president of Narayanganj district unit of International Society for Krishna Consciousness Dr Dilip Das, president of Narayanganj district unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad Sankar Saha, president of Narayanganj district unit of Jago Hindu Parishad Krishna Das Kajol and councilor Monir Hossain, among others, were present.
Hundreds of Hindu devotees wearing white T-shirts inscribed with the word “Shree Krishna” representing from different temples participated in the procession.
They carried portraits of Lord Krishna, Radha, mother Josoda, father Basu Dev and tyrant king Kangsha.
BSS from Panchagarh adds: The Members of Hindu community here yesterday celebrated Janmastami, the birth of lord Krishna, with huge festivity and fanfare.
On the occasion, a ‘Mangal Shovajatra’ was brought out in the city. Following the Shovajatra a discussion meeting was arranged at Government Auditorium here in the district town today.
Deputy Commissioner Amal Krishna Mandal attended the discussion as the chief guest with Additional District Magistrate Mohammad Golam Azam in the chair.
Police Super Giasuddin Ahmed, Civil Surgeon Dr Petambar Roy, Panchagarh Sadar upazila Chairman and General Secretary of district Awami League Anwar Sadat Samrat attended the function as special guests.
