Jatiya Nirbachon Parjobekkhon Parishad (JANIPOP) has observed the voting of by-election to the mayoral post of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and polls to councillor posts in its 18 new wards. The casting of the vote began at 8.00 am and ended at 4.00 pm without any break. 50 short-term observers of the parishad observed 69 polling stations on mobile basis.
Executive Director of the parishad Advocate Itrat Amin Kalimullah has coordinated this by-election observation effort of the parishad. Polling stations dotted arround Uttara, Mirpur, Rampura, Mohammadpur, Lalmatia, Tejgaon and other places have been observed by the observers of the parishad.
JANIPOP has observed that law and order situation of polling stations & media presence were satisfactory. The DNCC mayor elections saw low voters turn out following rain in the morning hour but increased after 12.30 pm.
In the light of overall observations, JANIPOP is of the opinion that the mayoral by-election of DNCC and polls to councillor posts in its 18 new wards were free, peaceful and neutral.
