The river Jamuna may devour many villages any time in Kazipur upazila under Sirajganj district as 35 meters flood protection embankment of the river collapsed on Thursday.
Md. Shaful Islam Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) in Kazipur told the newsman that the dyke collapsed as erosion by the river took a serious turn in the last few days due to on rush of rainwater.
Kazipur Sadar Union Parishad Chairman Md. Kamruzzaman Biplob complained that use of a sub tendered materials by the Water Development Board WDB for collapsing of the dyke.
It is only eye wash and nothing else, as just a few workers are seen working to repair the dyke. The efforts are not enough to control such a turbulent situation, added the UP Chairmen.
About the allegation, Executive Engineer Babul Chandraw Sheel of Sirajganj WDB said, they have already started working to check the erosion through dumping sands bags at Meghai point.
About three weeks ago a portion of a road alongside the river was devoured by the river Jamuna on the same spot.
