Jamdani show begins in city

A 10-day long ‘Jamdani Exhibition 2016’ began at Bangladesh National Museum in the city on Sunday.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu inaugurated the show organized by Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC).
In his speech, Amu underscored the need for proper patronsation to protect Jamdani, which is on the Unesco Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. “It represents the classical status of Bangladesh in the global market. So this type of exhibition should be organised in the big cities outside Dhaka, too,” he said.
He also said a Jamdani palli (village) and research centre has been set up in Tarabo of Narayanganj to revive the old glory of Dhakai Jamdani. “A haat corner has also been there to directly sell products to customers.” State Minister for Textiles and Jute Mirza Azam, Senior Secretary of the Industries Ministry Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan and Cultural Affairs Secretary Aktari Momtaj were present at the inaugural ceremony with BSCIC Chairman Hazrat Ali in the chair.
