Service delivery at Jamalganj Health Complex-the only public healthcare centre in Jamalganj upazila- is being hampered as many posts of doctors, nurses and other staff remain vacant for long.
Although huge numbers of ailing people are visiting the health complex everyday from distant places of the haor region, most of them remain unattended and end up in visiting costly private clinics in the area.
During a visit to the health complex around 11am on September 26, our Sunamganj correspondent found 35-40 patients were kept waiting for hours for the doctors to come at the outdoor section.
No single doctor visited the outdoor section to examine the patients since the morning.
Aklima Akhter, a patient waiting in the queue, said, “Whenever we come here, the doctors remain busy in meeting.”
