The investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunals (ICTs), in its investigation, found seven counts of crimes perpetrated by Jamaat-e-Islami, its associate bodies and mouthpiece – daily Sangram – during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.”The investigation agency has completed the probe against Jamaat-e-Islami and its associate bodies,” said Chief Coordinator (CC) of the ICT investigation agency Md Abdul Hannan Khan at a press briefing at its Dhanmondi office in the city on Tuesday.
He said, Investigation Officer Md Motiur Rahman had carried out investigations on different allegations and found the involvement of Jamaat and its associate bodies in seven types of crimes, including crimes against humanity, genocide and war crimes. The probe report will be submitted to the chief prosecutor of the ICT . Replying to a question, Hannan Khan said the Investigation Agency sought ban on Jamaat and its affiliates. “The government can ban Jamaat-e-Islami through an executive order. On the other hand, it could be banned through legal process,” he said adding that they have also sought confiscation of the wealth of the offenders.
The chief coordinator said that, the investigation agency completed the report after around eight months of investigation, which began on August 18, 2013.
The probe team has provided 70 prosecution witnesses against Jamaat and its allies, he said.
