A Dhaka court yesterday sent seven leaders and workers of Jamaat-e-Islami including its Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar to the jail in a case filed under Anti-Terrorism Act.
The other six accused people are Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana ANM Shamsul Islam, Assistant Secretary General Rafiqul Islam Khan, Executive Council members Ijjat Ullah, Mobarak Hossain, former President of Islami Chhatra Shibir Yeasin Arafat and Md Imam Hossain, personal staff of ANM Shamsul Islam.
Dhaka’s Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain passed the order
after police produced the accused people in the court on Wednesday on completion of their remand, with prayer to keep them behind the bars till the end of the investigation in the case.
Defence counsels however, sought bail for them. After hearing both
sides, the court sent the accused to the jail.
Mia Golam Porwar, Rafiqul Islam Khan, Ijjat Ullah, Mobarak Hossain and Yeasin Arafat were placed on two-day remand on September 12.
Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Mahmuda Akter of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on September 7 placed
nine leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including its Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar on four-day remand each in the same case.
Another court on September 10 placed Maulana ANM Shamsul Islam and Md Imam Hossain on a four-day remand each.
