Police arrested a leader of Jamaat-e-Islami from Mugda area in the city on Friday night on charge of financing violent activities during the ongoing countrywide blockade.
The arrestee was identified as Shamsur Rahman, deputy registrar of Bangladesh Islami University (Dhaka campus).
Tipped off, a team of Mugda thana police conducted a drive in the area and arrested him at night, said deputy commissioner (Media) of DMP Masudur Rahman.
Shamsur Rahman was arrested on charge of financing terrorist activities during the ongoing countrywide non-stop blockade enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance, added Masudur Rahman.
He had direct link to various incidents of violence at the city’s Khilgaon, Sabujbagh, Motijheel and Shahjahanpur, said the police officer.
